Foundation Portfolio - Preliminary Task

The preliminary task is to produce a demo of continuity of editing.

 It must show you can successfully use;
  • Match on Action
  • Shot/Reverse Shot
  • 180 Rule
  • Eyeline Match
Match on Action: this is when we see an actor start an action in one shot and then see them continue in the next.

180⁰ Rule: This rule is a basic guideline that states that two characters(or other elements) in the same scene should always have the left/right relationship to eachother. if the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called the line.

Shot/Reverse Shot: Used to show characters having a convosation. Makes a convosation more interesting.

Eyeline Match: this is when the camera is pointed at a character while they are looking in a different direction. the cmera view then changes to where the character was looking to show his 'eye line'.

Our Peliminary Task

In the following sequence we should see the following action unfold:

Character A walks towards a closed door.
Character A enters through the door and crosses a room to where character B is seated.
Character A&B exchange a few lines of dialogue.
There is atleast one use of eyeline match.
Either character exits the room.
