127 Hours

Released on the 7th January 2011, lasted for 94minutes

Summary

A mountain climber, who during his adventure gets trapped between a boulder and a canyon, whil canyoneering alone near Moab, Utar, this makes him resort to desperate measures in order to survive. Based on a true story.

Director: Danny Boyle

The threat within this thriller is different from other common thrillers and its threat is not a person, but however it is nature; the sun, water(none of it, so he will dehydrate, sun contributes) and rocks.

Although most of the film is in the same place of the same person, which would seem to bore a lot of people, the editing and skill of the film makes the audience intrigued to continue watching, and the film is able to emphasise itself without a great deal. It’s a simple story that will grip the viewer.

The use of silence is used well to impose tension to the audience at appropriate moments, and has close attention to detail.

There is a good use of drama – when he drops his knife and can’t reach it, he has to adapt and use a stick and his feet to retrieve it.

There is a mixture of optimism, then pessimism (hope then no hope).

The cutting of his arm itself is in great detail and not unrealistic, by him chopping it straight of, it takes time, a lot of effort, and a great deal of pain.
